Today we're trying to get the fresh air vent hoses together. The fresh air vents in these planes by and large seem to work quite well, however, if you look at the design you can't help but notice that there's nothing to keep something from coming through the vents if you're just parked on the ground or (even more exciting) taxiing along. I'm thinking here mainly of the possibility of a bee coming into the cockpit as you're in the middle of your takeoff roll, which would probably lead to more excitement than is ideal.
Therefore, we'll put some screens in here to make this not happen. Let's see if this works:
|
Here's the screen - this was just made out of a kitchen sieve that was donated to the airplane project. (Thanks, mom!) |
Here's the view from the outside - this was the original plan, which was modified after it proved to be problematic the for the reasons detailed below. |
At this point, I realized that it was going to be easier to put this over the back (panel-mounted) vent rather than the NACA scoop. Here was the reasoning behind this:
| |
|
Still playing with putting this on the front - this is how it goes on either end, though. |
Here's the final configuration - you can see the screen through the vent in the panel. |
After that, it was just putting the scat tube over the screen, and then putting the stainless steel clamp on top of that. These should be good to go! | |
|
Wires - we've finished drilling holes in the spar webbing, which we had started just the other day, and now we've got Altrak wires running up here. Should be able to get that done quickly, now. |
In addition, the strobe wire for the tail is back here now, and the wires for the Dynon remote compass. Sweet! |
