30 April 06 - Transponder Wiring, Static Line Run

Quite a few little projects today - I've got to build a spacer so we can make the flap mount and canopy latch rod fit nicely. Also, we're starting to mess around with the radio stack (transponder and radio is about it, GPS should be straightforward), and we're pondering the static line stuff.

In addition, there were some random parts that needed to be painted, too, so we'll get that knocked out.

Conclusion from the issues yesterday: combination of a nice spacer and two washers keep it from rubbing. That's quite a lot of material. I may make another spacer to replace the washers, but it's more or less the same idea. Either way, it'll work fine.

Garmin startup screen. Neat!

The GTX-327 has a few options for how you can dim the display: you can either hook it up to another panel dimmer, or you set it up automatically to use the sensor in the front. This is the default "it's bright outside" display.

Here we've got a bolt over the sensor, so the transponder thinks that it's dark out. This is the default night display, however, you can set either the positive or negative display one to show up all the time . . . just brighter or dimmer.

We're also trying to figure out the best way to get the static line from the back to the front. There's a big bulkhead underneath the rollbar that we've got to get this through. We don't have all the rivets in here yet, though, so we probably shouldn't get too far into this until we've got that knocked out. In any case, here's the first attempt at this:

It would be nice to put a bushing in there, but if we do, it's going to make the whole lots bigger, and I'm not sure that's such a great idea given that we're using a hole that's close to the edge. Hmmm . . . still pondering this.
