2 May 06 - Transponder stuff, Fuselage Wire Runs

Although we more or less figured out how we were going to hook up the transponder yesterday, today we actually got it in the plane, ran the wires, hooked up the connector, all of which I forgot to take pictures of. All we've got is a picture of it in the panel, proving we did all that but not providing you with any illustrations on how we got there. Sorry.

The other project of the day was we're trying to figure out how to run cables from the front of the plane back to the rear, and this involves drilling a few holes in the webbing for the wing spar. On the advice of a few builders, we're putting these in the center of the webbing (top to bottom, anyway) as in theory that's the least necessary structural part, so here we go with that project, too:

Transponder powered up and in the panel. All wires (except the antenna) have been run at this point.

Holes in the spar webbing. This looks easy, but involved climbing in the plane and unhooking the gas lines and pulling them out of the way.

Recently got the gas caps and fuel selector plate back from Bill Esther, who engraved them for me. These just got here in the mail today, and they look beautiful! Bill has a slew of selections for the format of the gas caps, and I was able to get them exactly how I wanted them, and service was prompt. If this is something that you decide you want done on your plane, I highly recommend sending the gas caps to Bill. Check out his website.

One of the gas caps - in addition to engraving the gas caps, Bill's also painted the letters.

Here's the fuel selector plate. This is going to be painted, at which point the engraving should show up better than it does now.

There's the painted version - I'm still contemplating trying to paint the letters, although it already shows up lots better, so it's probably okay like this.
