28 May 06 - Autopilot/GPS Wiring, Instruments in Panel

Today, the GPS antenna for the pictorial pilot arrived. This is a Garmin GPS 35. The reason that we decided to get this one is that there is a wiring diagram in the back of the Pictorial Pilot manual that shows exactly how to do the wiring on it.

Unfortunately, this does not mean that we can hook everything up and see if it all works correctly - the Pictorial Pilot only displays a heading if it's moving fast enough to fly, which I'm guessing is at abotu 50 mph. Near as I can tell, there's not a way to do any bench testing with this, though maybe someone else out there has figured out a way to do it.

In any case, now that this is here, we wired up the Pictorial Pilot, and put it in the panel.

Also, we drilled a hole in the firewall, put an eyeball fitting in there to run the wire. The next step here is to build a little shelf for the actual antenna.
