25 June 06 - Forward Fuselage Skin, Stick Boot Ring

We're at something of a stopping point, so to speak - as far as electrical system stuff, there's not much more that can happen until we start contemplating stuff forward of the firewall, and now that the panel is more or less complete we can start thinking about the rest of the project. The next two big parts are going to be firewall forward stuff and the canopy, and before any of those happen we're going to have to have more of a handle on the forward fuselage skin. I've talked to a few folks that have had holes cut in this, and everyone that has done it thinks that it is worth doing. Because of the layout of our system, though, it would probably be a good idea to have more than just two holes up there. Time to go ahead and work on those cuts.

Also, I need to finish up the stick boot ring, which is a project that I started a month or so ago and then it got put on the back burner because other things were being done. Let's go ahead and finish it up.

Here's the forward fuselage skin after cutting the outer two holes - all of these need to be filed out and finished up, now, but the outer ones more than the inner ones.

Making the cutouts for the stick boot ring - lots of dremel and file work. Not difficult, but will probably take awhile.

I'm guessing that we'll be at this for a few days, so probably nothing exciting will happen this week.
