Well, it's about time for another monthly meeting of the TVRVBG. This one is a cookout at Moontown, which is not to be missed: Moontown on a summer evening is just entirely too cool, and also this meeting involved really good food, by which I mean really good food. Rembrandt had his canvases, Michelangelo had the Sistine Chapel, and Terry Burk has his grill.
In any case, in order to get an RV ride, I drove out to DCU in order to hitch a ride over to 3M5. Here's what resulted . . .
RVs on the ramp at DCU - left to right is Dave Stafford, Bob Butler, Sam Buchanan, and Jeff Crabb. |
Nifty clouds as we're leaving Decatur. |
Sam and I are in the number two slot . . . there's Jeff, who's flying lead. |
There's Dave in the number three slot. |
Dave again, with Bob bringing up the rear. |
Downtown Huntsville, looking south. |
On final at Moontown. Jeff's just touching down. |
We brought the mostly-completed panel for the -7A that's in progress in Dad's garage . . . here it is being investigated. |
Ed was unable to sell his "slightly used" crankshaft. |
I mean . . . a little duct tape and that should be as good as new. It's for an experimental plane, right? Ahem. |
Neat tipper/slider mod on a -9A. |
Doug Preston (and his -7) made it up from Bessemer. |
These next two pictures are probably more interesting to me than to most other folks because I am planning on duplicating these style hinges and flush-mounted door on the map box that we're still working on. This is from Jim Harchanko's -7A, and according to Jim, the hinges that he used are 1/2" hidden barrel hinges (item number 28555) from Rockler Woodworking and Hardware. Their website is at rockler.com and their phone number is 1-800-279-4441. | |

RVs on the flightline . . . |
Tom and Kevin made it in after we got there . . . this is probably the best turnout I've seen in awhile - 11 or 12 RVs. |
Good food and lots of RVators talking. |
Sunset behind Sam's 399SB. |
Doug Preston departs. |
Tucking 399SB back into its hangar. |
